Jak 2 is one of the most pointlessly hard games I've ever played. And your so-called "GTA influences" boil down to nothing except a five-minute trek between missions.

Also, buy DW7. And buy Sly Cooper, even though asshole called it a rental.

Dood.

He said he wasn't into them. I offer it as a budget option. It's not a pure sports game, and he might find that fun.

Er... the rest I don't disagree with is what that post should have said.

And DO NOT buy DW7... it is really really really fucking boring and has lots of custscenes (in-engine forced talks ala Golden Sun) so I can't understand how Bob can like it. You have to play for like 5 hours before you even get in your first fight. Go read a walkthrough at gamefaqs for the game to see what I mean. The big draw of the game is that the world is huge and has lots of NPCs with unique things to say. But who cares how huge the world is when the only way you can interact with it is by searching chests and using the "talk" command. For all the characters there is really no character development to speak of. This is not like a traditional RPG at all. The only thing going for it is the combat, which if you haven't played a DW game before, is extremely repetitive and not as graphically entertaining as you may be used to. The monster heart or essence or whatever system is neat, but Final Fantasy Adventure did that ten years ago. The reason it sold so well in Japan is because they are insane. DW7 is like Animal Crossing meets Final Fantasy for them except boring.

I wasn't really planning on DW7, so whatever.

Also Jak 1 wasn't really that great. It was too easy and the controls were a little floaty. The wider range of gameplay compared to a normal platformer is what made the game fun, but the story and cutscenes weren't as polished as they could have been. The game is on par with Haven: Call of the King, which isn't saying all that much. It also suffers from some uninspired missions, e.g. too much DKC style collect the 100 doodads quests. In short, it was no Mario 64, but it compared favorably to the other platformers available. Jak 2 does all of this better. And Bob, how can you NOT prefer Jak 2 with its so-called GTA influences?

There is no such thing as too easy. I'll pick 'em both up (again, assuming I buy a pstwo).

Devil May Cry 1

Not really interested.

Onimusha 3 (much better controls than the previous ones)

This is out for xbox as well, innit?

One of the Dynasty Warriors games - just get the cheapest one - maybe just rent it actually.

will do.

FFX if you like the series

GOOD GOD NO!

Tony Hawk 3 or 4 if you haven't played them

Don't care. Can play it on xbox if I did.

Sly Cooper (a rental because it is quick to beat - but might take a little longer to unlock all the time trials if you suck at platformers)

Sure thing! I'll probably buy it.

DDR or one of the kareoke games if you have a girlfriend

Hahahahahahahaha!!! (so lonely...)

Beyond Good and Evil if you haven't played it yet.

I'm a BG&E fanb0i if you haven't noticed.

Champions of Norrath

I've already played Dark Alliance 1 & 2.

Disaster Report

Never heard of it, but I'll give it a shot.

James Bond: Everything or Nothing (probably not budget yet)

another xbox game?

Simpsons: Hit and Run

xbox!

Timesplitters 2 if you like playing splitscreen multiplayer shooters ala Goldeneye

I was considering picking up the GCN timesplitters at one time.

Zone of the Enders

never heard of it, I'll probably check it out.

Thanks for the recommendations! They've been added to teh list.

Tony Hawk is better with PS2 controls.
Ditto for Timesplitter 2, but not as big a deal there.

THPS4 will be a must pick up for me as the PAL GCN conversion was awful and I still had fun with it. I do however find it tricky with the GCN controller to get the best out of my button mashing.

The Bucs D has cost you 10 points tonight, in my favor.

Well, technically, they made me one point.  Though since they started with a few, I guess you might look at like they lost me some points.  :P

Did you see though?  My entire WR core made me 4 points this go around.  You know if I had a good WR, I'd be dominating this league...  well, more than I am now.

I know. What were the conditions during the Steelers/Fins game? I was hoping Bettis would punch one in for me, but it seems like no one got close to the red zone, for the most part. Bah!

That's OK. If I can get 20 points from Terry Glenn, you ass is mine.

Apparently is a was a big time rain bowl.  I don't think it was shown on TV because it was delayed because of Jean, but Sportscenter tells me it rained a lot.

I saw a snippet from the first half Bucs game shown during the Raiders game, and there was a lake in the middle of the field that was the size of an Olympic swimming pool. It drained away later, apparently, but the conditions sounded like they never got better than atrocious.

I had picked up the Falcons D earlier in the week because the Cardinals' opposing DST is always going to score big, but then dropped them late because I figured (correctly) that the weather in Florida would be nigh unplayable. Plus I needed a new WR to bolster my thin ranks - Price has been a bust this year and I gave away Muhammad and Moulds in separate trades for two gimp QBs in Rivers and Garcia.

That, and he votes/thinks Republican.

Oh, and I just finished the Documentary on Star Wars. It was so refreshing to see everything about Star Wars, and not some sugar-coated piece that we used to get on TV from time to time. After seeing all the blood, sweat and tears Lucas put into his art, he's more than earned the right to put a topless dance number into the films, make Greedo shoot first, last, or in the middle, and put Jar-Jar in any scene he damn well wants. My respect for the man has grown beyond begging for his table scraps.

Re: jafd's topic.

I agree with Bob.  It doesn't matter which implementation of HHGTTG came first or second or third. Of the available verions of it that I've seen/heard (which is to say: the book, the radio show, and the BBC miniseries/tv show/whatever you call it), the book is by FAR the best medium for the story and the only one I care for.  The story is too ridiculous to work as a live action movie/tv show, and I much prefer reading books to audio presentations.

Alright, with the Cowboys/Redskins game about to start, we have a couple of matches already decided, with my Redbeards already leading Shadarr's Roughriders 59-39 with Testaverde and Witten to play for me, plus unassailable leads to Mackaddie over Cheesypoof/Ergo (124-34), Darkseid_d over Chunkstyle (81-40) and hangedman over Gabe (48-38).

The games yet to be decided, with the players yet to play are:
lwf (E. George, J. Hall, Redskins DST) 59 leading Trunks (C. Portis) 51
Funkdrunk 71 leading Post-It (Cowboys DST) 58
jjohnsen (J. Robinson) 30 leading McBain (R. Gardner) 30
